A photo exhibit of the defenders of the Jewish Quarter

Alone on the Walls - 1948 Old City Siege

David Palombo (1920-1966) was a Turkish-born Israeli sculptor and painter best known for sculptures that adorn several famous sites in Israel. Among these are the gates for the Yizkor (memorial) Tent at the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum and the previous entrance gates to the Knesset.
Stylistically speaking, Palombo’s sculptures departed from the prevalent aesthetic norm in that they tended to employ a higher center of gravity. Many of his works can be found at the David Palombo Museum, which is situated in the artist’s former workshop right outside the Old City on Mount Zion.

<h2 style="text-align: justify;">A Unique Museum in the Old City</h2>
The Museum of Psalms is a one of kind museum located at the center of <a href="https://itraveljerusalem.com/the-old-city/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">the Old City</a>. Ever since the museum opened in 1995, it has been moving forward with a strong mission and a clear vision: to satisfy the growing demand for spiritually inspired art.
The main exhibit displays a collection of 150 paintings based on the Book of Psalms. Each painting portrays one specific psalm at a time (according to the Jewish tradition, the Book of Psalms consists of 150 individual psalms). The artist Moshe Tzvi Halevi Berger painted the series over a period of 15 years. The palette used by Berger consists of only the seven rainbow colors, combining together art and spirituality. The colors represent different virtues of the soul, painted with rich and astonishingly beautiful imagery. Every brushstroke is felt, and the complex and original method of painting immediately captures the eye of the observer. Berger's works are displayed with annotations in a variety of languages that interpret and provide extra information about each painting. Each remark is composed as a song to enrich the spiritual world of the observer.
Moreover, the museum displays another collection of the artist and that is the Sun series. The Sun series comprises 42 paintings that illustrate the Kabbalistic ideas of light, meditation and healing, through various permutations of the motif of the sun. Another truly inspiring exhibit is the Tree of Life series. The artist teaches us about the tree of life which was located next to the tree of knowledge in the Garden of Eden. Besides being artistically extraordinary, these works manage to create not just a visual experience, but rather a spiritual one. These paintings have deep emotional influence on people and they are known to create change, inspire and heal many people of all ages, faiths and religions.
You can find some of Berger's paintings at the museum's store. You can also find prints of his selected works and the works of new and young Jewish Art artists. There are also Judaica products, primarily silver sterling at very convenient prices.

Museum of Psalms

The Isaac Kaplan Old Yishuv Court Museum is housed in a 500-year-old beautiful building at the Jewish Quarter in Jerusalem. The museum allows us to take a look back into the everyday lives of the members of the Old Yishuv in Jerusalem. The Old Yishuv is the name for the Jewish settlement in Jerusalem, before the departure from the walls of the Old City.
This is an opportunity to hear the stories of the inhabitants of the Old Yishuv, displayed through their original belongings, objects, and tools.
These items come to life in front of the visitors and proudly tell the stories of their owners. We will discover stories about the struggles they had to face; stories of birth and marriage, happiness and sadness, and faith in God.
The tour and the exhibitions of the museum are interesting and enlightening for all ages and the whole family.

Between the holy and the secular

In the communities of Israel around the world, it is customary to dedicate religious artifacts to the elevation of the human soul. In the display, you’ll see various covers of the Torah’ scrolls – the religious artifacts that were donated for the sake of elevating the soul of a deceased.

To be a child in the Land of Israel

An exhibition that will take you on a journey through time following the children’s games of the 1940s at the Jewish Settlements in Israel. The Zionist movement regarded the children as the future of the Jewish people and plentiful resources were devoted to the education and well-being of the young.

During the British Mandate there were many toys created for the children. Reading sets, posters, certificates, and many books – all these were created for the sake of the children and expressed the investment of Zionism in the children’s future.

Moshav Zkenim – Stories of the Elders of Jerusalem 1840-1948

The exhibition follows the establishment of “Moshav Zkenim”, the first Retirement House in Old Jerusalem, and how it developed in the New City. It also represents the story of the Elders of Jerusalem in the years 1840 to 1948. The exhibition shows certificates, photos, a special video, special plates with dates of death from the Museum’s collection, and other fascinating exhibits.
