<p style="text-align: justify;">Between the grassy expanse of Independence Park and the tiled boulevard of the ultra-posh Mamilla Mall lies the historic Mamilla Cemetery. The site has been around since Byzantine times and houses several impressive Mamluk mausoleums and Sufi shrines. The Mamilla Pool at the center of the cemetery is one of three reservoirs built by Herod the Great in the first century BCE. Like much of the cemetery, the pool, too, has fallen into disrepair since the 1948 War of Independence.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Several years ago, the Simon Wiesenthal Center announced plans to build a Center of Human Dignity – part of its Museum of Tolerance – at the northwestern corner of the cemetery, which had for years been a parking lot. The move garnered an outcry from various academic circles and Muslim authorities and was stalled for several years. For the time being, visitors can still soak in the muted splendor of the gravestones and mausoleums of the Mamilla Cemetery as they shuttle between the various shopping centers of downtown Jerusalem.</p>

<h3 style="text-align:left;">About the Old City Train</h3><p style="text-align:left;">Getting through the Old City to the Western Wall just got a little easier and a lot more fun with "The Old City Train," a transportation service that takes visitors from Jaffa Gate to the Western Wall that will offer rich audio tour experience and greatly increase accessibility to the Western Wall for the disabled.</p><h3 style="text-align:left;">&nbsp;</h3><h3 style="text-align:left;">Route &amp; Schedule</h3><p style="text-align:left;">The Old City Train makes it easy to visit leading heritage sites including the Western Wall Tunnel, the Chain of Generation center, the Jerusalem Archeological Park - Davidson center and more</p><p><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://torisify-dev-cdn.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/atr-old-city-train-1.png"><img class="wp-image-40248 size-medium" src="https://torisify-dev-cdn.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/atr-old-city-train-1-450x257.png" alt="atr-old-city-train-1" width="450" height="257"></a> <i>Click image to see full size map</i></p><p style="text-align:left;">The train route begins at Jaffa Gate and goes through the Armenian and Jewish Quarters before arriving at the Western Wall. The return leaves from the Dung Gate and travels via Mount Zion back to Jaffa Gate. &nbsp;Excursions leave every 30-45 minutes Sunday-Thursday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm (6:00 pm in the winter) and on Fridays until 1 hour before Shabbat.</p><h3 style="text-align:left;">&nbsp;</h3><h3 style="text-align:left;">Tickets</h3><p style="text-align:left;">There are two ticket offices, one located at Jaffa Gate and another at the Dung Gate near the Western Wall. The train operates on availability basis.</p><h3 style="text-align:left;">&nbsp;</h3><h3 style="text-align:left;">Bar\Bat Mitzvahs and other events</h3><p style="text-align:left;">The staff at the Old City train can handle the entire production of bar/bat mitzvahs and other special events event based around a private tour and&nbsp;a lavish meal in a beautiful banquet hall with additional elements according to your tastes.</p><h3>&nbsp;</h3><h3>Tours for Educational Institutions and&nbsp;Groups</h3><p>Visiting the Western Wall has never been easier! The Old City Train is designed to make the Western Wall, among Old City sites, accessible to educational institutions, workers' unions and more. The staff will accompany you from the moment you arrive at Karta Lot to the moment you are back from your tour. The train will take you right to the security&nbsp;check-points at the Western Wall, where you will get guidance for your group.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Teddy Park was established by the the Jerusalem Foundation at the foot of the Old City walls, across the street from Jaffa Gate. In the center of the park, which stretches over seven hectares, is Israel's only sound and light fountain. Watch beautiful synchronized water, sound and light shows which take place four times daily with 256 nozzles, 1,800 light fixtures and a recording of original music performed by the New Jerusalem Philharmonic.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The park also has a visitors' center which tells the story of the development of modern-day Jerusalem during Teddy Kollek's time as mayor in the city. Corner stones describing milestones of the mayor's life are erected along the pathways. There is also a wishing well made of Jerusalem stone, a sun dial, statues, a restored historic building and an aqueduct.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The park is accessible to people with disabilities, sight impairment and for strollers.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The park is open from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm daily, and the visitor's center is open Sunday-Thursday from 2:00-9:00 pm.</p>
