We visited with another couple and opted to create our own tasting menu. We had four or five dishes with a bottle of wine and enjoyed it a little more than having the restaurant deliver their own tasting menu. We would recommend this place.
Eucalyptus
- Price $$$$
- For Private Events
- Non-kosher
- Reservation Needed
Located in the city’s artist colony (Hutzot Hayotzer), a 2-3 minute walk from Jaffa Gate, is a very memorable and unique restaurant. The Eucalyptus restaurant, run by Chef Moshe Basson, serves modern interpretations of biblical cuisine. Basson’s passion for biblical culture drove him to research recipes that had been neglected and nearly forgotten for centuries, and then to go on to re-invent them.
Every dish has its origins in biblical scenes such as Jacob and Esau’s lentil stew and all the spices and herbs used are grown in the surrounding hills of Jerusalem and Judea. The seven species feature heavily as well as other traditional ingredients.
The Eucalyptus is set in an ancient stone building with a huge scenic balcony, where one can enjoy the crimson sunset as it hits the walls of the Old City every evening. The combination of cuisine, passion and location make this restaurant a special place to experience Jerusalem’s heritage.
Restaurant Accessibility
- The restaurant is not accessible for those with a mobility handicap
- The restaurant does not have handicapped restrooms
- The restaurant is in a historically preserved building and this is the reason for the lack of accessibility

A very unique restaurant in Jerusalem that serves biblical-inspired dishes! Lots of great options on the menu so you really can't go wrong.
It’s unfortunate, but it seems that this restaurant has become more of a tourist trap than an enjoyable high-end dining experience. Staff was friendly, but very stressed out with the high volume of visitors and turnover, thus making the experience for the guest unnerving and extremely impersonal. The food, while decent, is far overpriced...
MoreIt’s unfortunate, but it seems that this restaurant has become more of a tourist trap than an enjoyable high-end dining experience. Staff was friendly, but very stressed out with the high volume of visitors and turnover, thus making the experience for the guest unnerving and extremely impersonal. The food, while decent, is far overpriced and the restaurant itself is tired and messy. I would recommend giving it a miss/pass. There are better options by far in Jerusalem.
