<h2>Visit the Holiest Site in the Old City</h2><p>It is a well-known tradition to write notes of prayer and requests and place them between the cracks of the stones in the Wall. It is also highly recommended to tour the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://itraveljerusalem.com/attraction/western-wall-tunnels/">Western Wall Tunnels</a>, where you can explore the underground rooms and narrow passageways, revealing the full length of the Western Wall, as well as the Chain of Generations Center, where a most moving display of the Jewish chain of generations can be seen by means of spectacular artwork created from layers of glass.&nbsp;</p><p>Throughout the year, the Western Wall plaza is the natural and inevitable venue for many events and ceremonies, including government ceremonies, swearing-in ceremonies for new IDF recruits, special prayer sessions, and bar mitzvah celebrations.</p><p>When Herod renovated the Second Temple, built in the first century B.C.E., the Western Wall was one of four huge supporting walls. Herod built a huge courtyard on Mount Moriya, the site of the Temple. In the sixteenth century, when Jewish pilgrimage to the Temple Mount was prohibited, the Western Wall would serve as a place of prayer for the Jews; a symbol of longing for the Temple.&nbsp;</p><p>The Wall is built from enormous, quarried stones, whose mass ranges between two to five tons. The stones are chiseled in a way that is characteristic of the construction during the times of Herod the Great: A stone frame that is chiseled, smoothed, and slightly sunken, whereas the center of the stone protrudes outward. The original height of the Western Wall was about 30 meters, and it was approximately half a kilometer long, with the bedrock of Jerusalem at its foundation.&nbsp;</p><p>There were fillings and vaults built in the space between the walls and the mountain, on top of which a paved plaza was constructed with a surface area of 144,000m<sup>2</sup>, equal to the size of 12 soccer fields.&nbsp;</p><p>From 1948-1967, when Jerusalem was divided between Israel and the Kingdom of Jordan, access to the Wall for Jews was forbidden, so many would make a pilgrimage to King David’s tomb on Mount Zion, where they could observe the Temple Mount from the roof of the structure, in the hope to return once more to pray at the Western Wall. Following the Six-Day War, masses of people flocked to the Jewish Quarter, and especially the Western Wall. A short time thereafter, the homes in the Mughrabi Quarter that were built alongside the Wall were destroyed and a prayer plaza was constructed.</p>

<p>This is the place of Jesus' crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. Visiting it is the trip's highlight for many tourists visiting the Land of Israel and Jerusalem.&nbsp;</p><h2>The last stop on Jesus' journey in one of the most magnificent churches in the old city&nbsp;</h2><p>The last stations on the path of Christ's suffering are within the church - from the ninth station to the fourteenth station. The church is located in the Christian quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, at the end of the "Via Dolorosa" ("Path of Agony"). You can find a site between the church walls identified as the Golgotha Hill, mentioned in the New Testament.&nbsp;</p><p>The church’s entrance courtyard mostly belongs to the three major factions that own it: the Latins, the Armenians, and the Greeks. In it, liturgical activity takes place, mainly during Easter. For example, on Holy Thursday, the washing of the feet by the Orthodox Patriarch takes place in the courtyard in memory of the washing of the disciples' feet by Jesus during the Last Supper. The visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher is the trip's highlight for many tourists visiting Israel and Jerusalem.&nbsp;</p><h2>About the history of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre&nbsp;</h2><p>The front of the church was designed during the Crusader period. In the past, transoms were decorated with cruciform reliefs above the entrance arches. These are now in the Rockefeller Museum. The bell tower on the left was also built during the Crusader period.&nbsp;</p><p>The church was built in the fourth century by Emperor Constantine, who accepted Christianity and made it the religion of the Roman Empire. The emperor's mother, St. Helena, walked around the Holy Land and identified the sites where the events mentioned in the New Testament occurred. Helena identified this place as the place of 'Golgotha' where Jesus was crucified, and next to it the tomb of Joseph the Mount of Olives, who made it possible for Jesus to be buried after he was removed from the cross.&nbsp;</p><p>In the 13th century, Muslim families received the responsibility for opening the church and the keys to the church. They are still responsible for the keys to the church, for opening it at dawn and locking it at sunset.&nbsp;</p><p>In the 19th century, a status quo agreement was established between the different factions, defining the rights of prayer and the authority of the various factions in the church.&nbsp;</p><p>Over the years, many changes were made to the church, which received its current form during the Crusader period. When it was built in the Byzantine period, it was larger and was called the 'Church of the Resurrection', to emphasize precisely the resurrection of Jesus.</p>

<p>Among the events, exhibitions, and exhibits at the Hansen House:</p><ul><li>An integrated exhibition led by designer Shachar Kedem in collaboration with the Natural History Museum examines the response of local artists to the act of taxidermy, influencing nature and other aspects of the complex relationship between humans and their surroundings.</li><li>Dr. Jonathan Ventura and Galit Bo are curating an exhibition on a mobilized design that will reveal how objects and consumer products are harnessed as mechanisms for spreading social messages.</li><li>TYPOMANIA, a group of graphic designers from Moscow presents works by designers from all over the world as part of an exhibition of posters dedicated to discussing truth and falsehood.</li><li><p>The "Matchmaker" project will deal with urban—Jerusalem mythologies, managed by the new matchmakers Noa Rich and Yochai Alush. The project brings together designers, storytellers, and guides from Jerusalem who will discuss iconic buildings throughout the city and create new and surprising memories of the places, the people, and the stories behind them.</p><p>&nbsp;</p></li></ul><p>The spaces of the design and research academies will function as shop windows; an avenue of pavilions of prophets and fortune-tellers will offer passers-by false and true predictions about their future. &nbsp; Throughout the Hansen House, there will be additional exhibits and events dedicated to manipulation, man-machine, wizardry in design, propaganda, and more.<br>&nbsp;</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Our tour starts on the Mount of Olives were we visit the Church of the Ascension. The church marks the spot where Jesus ascended to heaven and there is a rock with an imprinted footprint thought to be where Jesus stood before his ascension (Luke 24:50 – 51). The original church built here was in 390 but most of the chapel building we see today is from the Crusader period (1150).</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Available Languages:</strong> English</p>

Join a spiritual tour through Christian history 

<p>Enjoy our classic, most popular easy rider tour of the Old City. See it with our eyes and fall in love with these narrow alleys and ancient buildings and walls! We’ll begin our tour at the First Station, a wonderful site of a restored ancient train station in the heart of Jerusalem.&nbsp;</p><p>Next, we’ll drive towards the King David Hotel and the YMCA building, right next to the Old Train Station Compound, cross Teddy’s park and continue to Jaffa Gate. There we’ll ride next to the Old City Walls, admiring the view and towards the New Gate leading to the Christian Quarter. We’ll take the route through picturesque narrow alleys and enjoy the vantage point of the Tower of David to enjoy the view of both Eastern and Western Jerusalem. This will conclude the first part of the tour.&nbsp;</p><p>From here we’ll explore Yemin Moshe and Mishkenot Sha’ananim neighborhoods. We’ll observe the unique rooftops of these old streets, enjoying the most breathtaking view of the city, including the Walls, the Valley, the Montefiore windmill, Begin Center, and the unforgettable architecture of Jerusalem. Afterward, we’ll go back to the First Station, with a short stop at the Lion's Fountain.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Our tour begins on the Mount of Olives (Har HaZeitim) where we have a panoramic view across the holy city of Jerusalem. From this elevated point we have the ancient Jewish cemetery beneath us and beyond that the Old City with the shining Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount. As we look down on the Old City it is easy to imagine the Second Temple which once stood on the Temple Mount and the bustling ancient city as it would have been almost 2000 years ago.</p>
